Venture down thoroughfares and hidden alleys exploring churches, waterfronts and monuments plus see the interiors and gardens of some of the finest private residences in America. Founded in 1670, Charleston quickly rose to prominence as the colonies' most significant seaport, importing the finest in 18th and 19th century material culture. Today the city's legacy of Continental, European and Asian influences can still be found in its alluring architecture and decorative arts.
Renowned for three centuries as "a city set in a garden," Charleston welcomes the return of spring each year with its annual Festival tours. For two days you will roam magnificent sites on Legere Street and South of Broad at your leisure enjoying a variety of antebellum architectural styles and resplendent interiors. For 1 day you will roam the Glorious Gardens of the French Quarter and learn about plant material, garden design and history. Atop the Charleston's Historic High Battery at the James Missroon House enjoy a view of the harbor and the antebellum mansions along East Battery while enjoying lunch and discovering with Danielle Girard, "How to Serve a Proper Tea." Enjoy lunch at Slightyl North of Broad, Charleston's favorite restaurant.
Enjoy the historic ambience of this centuries-old city at a relaxing, easy-going pace with time on your own to visit the famous market or a boat tour of Ft. Sumter Island where the first shot rang out in the American Civil War. The music of Ludwig van Beethoven will be featured at the historic First Baptist Church, with students from the College of Charleston School of the Arts performing Beethoven's Ninth Symphony.
